About Me 0
Beatrice Appay PhD, MA.Psy, B.Ed
I am the founder of Younger By The Days and I am passionate about helping people nurture their inner fire and build their own path towards sustained health, for themselves and for the planet!
In this second part of my life, after an academic career as a sociologist and an author, and when most people ease into retirement, I am recreating myself in many ways and I want to share with you what I have found along the way.
My Goals
Nurturing inner peace, rejuvenating, cultivating energy, beauty, stamina and joy when aging, helping people to do so in their own way, enhancing their personal development as well as sharing my knowledge, my personal and professional experience, have become some of my main objectives in life.
My experience and expertise
In my younger days, I specialized in Human Sciences with a Phd from the Sorbonne in Sociology, a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Later in life, I learned Ayurvedic health regimens in India and Health and Energy Cultivation in China.
“My experience is grounded in practice as well as modern and ancient knowledge about health, energy cultivation and longevity.”
Yoga
A lifelong yoga practitioner, I became a Certified Yoga Teacher from the Institut Eva Ruchpaul, Paris. The Ruchpaul Method is a well-tempered yoga based on the Hatha Yoga tradition and Pranayama, the ancient Art of Breathing. In the United Stated, I recently completed my Yoga Alliance 500CTY with Brett Larkin who has implemented an excellent online Yoga Teacher Training and I am very proud to be part of her “Uplifted” community.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
Professionally trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in Aix-en-Provence in the well- known TCM school Lumen, I have had the privilege of receiving the direct teaching of great teachers such as Philippe Sionneau in Paris, the late Grand Acupuncture Master Dr. Richard Teh Fu Tan, Dr Young Weih Chieh in Los Angeles whose lifelong mission has been to transmit the legendary Chinese Master Tung’s immense knowledge. Master Tung is often referred as the greatest acupuncturist who ever lived, and to have received his teaching through his main direct disciple has been a privilege.
Qigong
Qigong, and medical Qigong in particular, is my other passion. In the Western world it is often considered as a form of moving meditation, or sometimes just as gentle gymnastics for old people. But such perception misses the meaning and power of it, like looking only at the tip of an iceberg. Qigong is much more than gymnastics or moving meditation. Qigong is one of the 6 ancient branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is the Art of Energy Cultivation. I am honored to have received the direct teaching of Master Mantak Chia. My Qigong Teaching Certification with Les Temps du Corps in Paris allowed me to practice with Master Ke Wen and a number of other Qigong and TaiChi Masters in China. The one who had the most significant impact on me is the internationally-praised Liu Yafei, 7th family successor of the Nei Yang Gong Qigong method and the Director of the National Medical Qigong Hospital and Training Centre in Beidaihe, China. I received my Qigong Teacher Certification from her and from Master Ke Wen.
Breathwork and Breathing Therapy
Breathwork and Breathing Therapy is a field that I am currently developing at the crossroad of the ancient practices of Qigong, Yoga, Traditional Chinese Medicine and of modern knowledge using biofeedback and other scientifically based breathing practices.
Moving to the States and creating Younger By The Days
Moving to the States had serious consequences on me: I had to renounce practicing Acupuncture, a practice that I love so much because of its efficacy and great results. Out of frustration, I suppose, this move led me to create a company, Younger By The Days, start my blog on health and aging well, and open my Wellness Coaching and Holistic Health practice.
Wellness Coaching, Holistic Health & Massage Therapy
I am a Certified Holistic Health Practitioner (1000 hours) from the SBBTI and a Certified Massage Therapist Certification from the CAMTC (California Massage Therapy Council). The SBBTI, the Santa Barbara Body Institute, logo is:
“Where lives change”
It is true, my life has changed and continues to change!
My signature program: PRABAM, a response to the Coronavirus pandemic
“Practice the Art of Breathing, Ancient and Modern with Beatrice Appay”
The Coronavirus pandemic put an abrupt halt to my Holistic Health and Massage Therapy practice, seriously impacted by the lock-down and social distancing. In response to this crisis, and profoundly inspired and mentored by Wim Hof, the Ice Man, who demonstrates day after day the fundamental role of breathing to boost our immune system, I further developed my approach to Breathwork and Breathing Therapy by creating my signature program PRABAM. It consists of online Breathing Master Class sessions. By teaching people how to improve their breathing in a conscious and active manner, this program aims at helping people reduce their stress, boost their stamina and bolster their defenses against this virus and any other that may come along in its place.
An International Researcher
The Sociologist in me is still alive, although my sociological career is well behind me. During a 25-year international research career with the French Government’s National Center for Scientific Research (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, CNRS), I led extensive international research programs on Society, work and health. I authored 8 books and numerous publications in academic journals, with a focus on individual autonomy and centralized control in Contemporary Societies. Invited as a speaker in many countries to present the theory of controlled autonomy I originated, later in life, I have been posted as a Visiting Professor at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and also UC Santa Barbara (UCSB).
A new chapter
I have definitely begun a new chapter in my life, recreating myself, a chapter of transformation, dedicated to health and well-being. I am passionate about it and I want to share my passion, inspire people, share my knowledge and experience with you.
